Season in Review

The UK Flat season has almost come to an end, and the National Hunt season is getting into gear. Enjoy our short highlights of the 2018 Flat season...

The O’Brien family dominate the Classics:

Godolphin were awarded the champion owner title for the fourth consecutive year:

Highlights have included triumphs in:

  • The Epsom Derby (William Buick on Masar for Charlie Appleby)
  • The Dubai World Cup (Christophe Soumillon on Thunder Snow for Saeed bin Suroor)
  • The Melbourne Cup (Kerrin McEvoy on Cross Counter for Charlie Appleby)
  • The Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf (William Buick on Line of Duty for Charlie Appleby)

The champion trainer title was awarded to John Gosden, who has had an impressive season:

  • A 25% strike rate.
  • Enable making history by winning both the Arc and the Breeders’ Cup Turf in the same season, off the back of an injury.
  • Stradivarius’s unbeaten season.
  • Cracksman’s powerful performances, which landed him at the top of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings alongside Winx with a rating of 130.

Silvestre De Sousa was crowned champion jockey for a third time with over 150 wins, and Jason Watson was named champion apprentice after an impressive season which gave him his first Group One win. Oisin Murphy has had a breakthrough year with over 120 wins, including 5 UK Group One triumphs, 3 of which were aboard Roaring Lion.
